Binita joined the Behkam Lab in the fall of 2019. She is currently working towards developing translational bio-hybrid drug delivery strategies with live-attenuated bacteria and nanoparticle systems. Her primary focus lies in tumor-targeting applications, especially in metastatic breast cancer cells. Her research involves in vitro assessment of the effect of chemotherapeutics on mammalian cells, studying the effects of tumor-like hypoxic microenvironment on bacterial proliferation and motility and synthesis of polymer-based nanoencapsulation structures.
In the past Binita has worked on other polymer systems in diverse fields of application. She has worked towards synthesis of pi-stacked oligomers for aggregation induced emission for OLED applications. She has also explored carbon-fiber reinforced elastomeric composites for high piezoresistive response for use in biomedical devices.
She aspires to extend her research into postdoctoral studies and eventually lead in the advancement of translational cancer therapeutics.
