Education:

B.Sc., Mechanical Engineering,
Ashesi University, Accra, Ghana, 2022

Vera is from the Central region of Ghana and joined the Behkam Lab in Fall 2024. Her participation in the 2022 International Genetically Engineered Machines (iGEM) competition, where her team designed a gold biosensor for gold pre-exploration, sparked her interest in biosensing. Her current research focuses on bacteria-based biosensors for health and food security. She is working on the EFRI ELiS: Nano-Bio-Hybrid Living Systems for Airborne Biothreat Detection project, designing biosensors to detect bound pathogens. Vera aims to apply mechanical engineering principles and synthetic biology to enhance health and ensure food security. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, finding it both relaxing and intellectually stimulating as she explores the life stories conveyed through lyrics.
